If you want to drive a vehicle with a GVM of more than 4.5 tonnes, but less than 8 tonnes, book a course to get your Light Rigid Vehicle Licence. This is what you will need to drive a school bus or ambulance. For vehicles that weigh 8 – 15 tonnes, with a single axel at the front and back, a Medium Rigid Licence is required.

In the case of vehicles with either 2 axels on the back and 1 on the front, or 2 axels on the back and 2 individual speer axels on the front, you will need a Heavy Rigid Vehicle Licence. We also offer Heavy Combination Licences, which allow you to carry a heavy trailer up to 9 tonnes, as well as Multicombination Licences for road trains and b-doubles trucks.

Frequently Asked QuestionsE

What is a multicombination licence?

A multicombination licence allows you to pull multiple heavy trailers, while driving a heavy vehicle. This sort of licence is required for road trains and b-doubles trucks. If you want to undertake a multicombination licence, call our team on the Central Coast today.

What is a rigid vehicle?

A rigid vehicle is any vehicle with axle sets, a driver’s position, steering system and a single rigid chassis. Certain vehicles with a split chassis also fit into this class—an articulated bus, for instance. Rigid vehicles require more specialised training to drive, which is why we offer courses for Light, Medium and Rigid Vehicle Licences.

What is required be a bus driver in New South Wales?

In NSW, a Bus Driver Authority Licence is required to drive commercial passenger vehicles. You need to also be at least 21 years of age, with an Australia driver licence held for at least 12 months. This has to have occurred within 2 years preceding the date of application. That’s because significant training is required to safely operate buses and other types of rigid vehicle.
