This is a 2-day training course that will have you driving on highways, single and multilane roundabouts, mountains and bends, dual-lane main roads, and single-lane roads. We will teach you how to reverse, do specific manoeuvres and secure loads safely—all through a streamlined and carefully course taught by our experienced drivers.
This course is for a condition B licence—otherwise known as a restricted gearbox licence. Considered the easier of the truck courses, this licence will only allow you to drive a truck with automatic transmission or a synchromesh gearbox. These systems do not require the more complex driving skill of ‘double clutching’ required for an Unrestricted Gearbox Licence.

This licence gives you the right to drive any type of gearbox truck. The team at ABC Driving School provides the basics for the RMS, teaching you how to secure a ratchet strap, a ‘truckies hitch’, and do a secure load with a chain.
Before you can upgrade, you need to have held your car licence for at least 12 months. A red P plater cannot upgrade to a truck licence. However, a Green P1 driver can upgrade to a Light or Medium Rigid Licence, and Green P2 drivers can apply for a Heavy Rigid Licence. No. In order to undertake our truck driving courses, you need a current NSW car driver licence. We only offer licence upgrades for trucks.
A synchromesh gearbox is designed with synchronised gears, making it easier to change gears—more akin to driving a manual transmission car. Truck gearboxes that are not synchronised require ‘double-clutching’ to function properly.
